Men's Hair Loss Issues

"Why am I losing my hair?"

If you are losing your hair and feel that you are the only one having this problem, let me assure you that your condition is not uncommon at all. It afflicts more than 35 million men and 20 million women in the United States. Men usually have a pattern to their hair loss much like a U shape. This condition is referred to as Male Pattern Baldness. Women, however, usually have thinning all over so that the scalp can be seen throughout, but do not lose it completely in any area.

Male pattern baldness or MPB is caused by a derivative of the male hormone testosterone. This derivative is dihydrotestosterone or DHT, which is present in high levels in the hair follicles of balding men. DHT forces the hair shaft to shrink, eventually closing the hair follicle and leaving no hair except for velluse hair or very fine, thin hair. MPB is a genetically rooted condition and its effects are basically irreversible.

Other factors in hair loss can be stress, nutrition, drugs, pregnancy and chemotherapy, all of which are temporary kinds of hair loss. Such hair loss will occur usually 1-3 months after one of the above takes place and regrowth of that hair will start approximately 3 months after any of the above causes is eliminated.

As hair replacement specialists, we will be happy to discuss your background and lifestyle to try to determine if you are losing your hair due to a genetic reason or because of a temporary condition.

I have tried to educate you on why you lose your hair and in upcoming installments of Ask Pam.  I will give you information on ways to correct hair loss and the success and drawbacks thereof. I also welcome your email questions and will attempt to showcase some questions that are of broad interest. You can email me at: hrciowa@inabc.net.

Women's Hair Loss Issues

"I thought only men lose their hair.  Why, as a woman, do I have hair loss?"

Over 20 million women suffer from hair loss. Over 10 million of these women are under 40 years of age. The only solution for women in the past has been wigs or creative styling. The Graduated Enhancement Method allows us to use existing hair that is healthy and growing rather than covering it up. There is not just one solution for women's hair loss. In fact there is an application for every type of women's hair loss.

Women lose their hair for many reasons. These include circumstances such as: diet, childbirth, menopause, alopecia totalis, and hereditary. These are not the only reasons for women's hair loss, but we see more clients because of these above reasons. We offer a free-no obligation consultation so we can help determine if you are a candidate for the Graduated Enhancement Method. The consultation is private, confidential, and at that time we can determine which of the Enhancement Methods will fill your hair loss needs. We will discuss hairstyles and cost at the free consultation.

Call us at 1-800-728-4247 (Hair) to schedule your free consultation or to receive our free brochure. The head of hair you once had or have always wanted is now in your reach, and only a phone call away.
